Visions and Partnerships in Action
The National Meeting, returning to the Nation's Capital for the first time since 1995, will include plenary presentations, workshop and poster sessions, regional roundtables, exhibits, demonstrations, and the National Forum -- a special track for college presidents and other senior administrators.
For over a decade, the U.S. Department of Education's National Meeting has provided a forum to discuss alcohol, other drug and violence prevention issues, data, research and resourceful programs at colleges and universities. The 12th National Meeting offers participants three days to share new developments in the prevention knowledge base, raise prevention standards, and network concerning prevention in and beyond the higher education community.

The U.S. Department of Education sponsors this National Meeting through its Safe & Drug Free Schools Program. The Department is grateful to the 1998 Planning Committee. These are Department-appointed volunteers -- faculty, practitioners, students, civic leaders, and public officials -- who work on agenda development, plenary speaker invitations, publicity, student involvement, and to help ensure that the meeting maintains the high standards to which participants have become accustomed. A brief letter from the Planning Committee.
The Department also appreciates the efforts of the National Capital Area Region of the Network of Colleges and Universities Committed to the Elimination of Drug and Alcohol Abuse for its collaboration in the 1998 National Meeting. Campuses from the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia are providing grassroots support and helping to organize opportunities for student participation. Contact Regional Coordinators Paul Kesner at pkesner@wvu.edu, Potomac State College, and Patricia Martin at trish@jhunix.hcf.jhu.edu, Johns Hopkins University, for more information.
